Our aims and ojectives
Laurieston is a community within a community, and is one of three community councils serving the wider Gorbals area.
Laurieston Community Council aims to help the Community and residents with any issues involving the various City Council Departments. The Community Council has been running for more than twenty years and serves a population of approximately 1,500 residents. There are currently around 15 active members on the Council, but new members are always welcome.
An ongoing aim of the Community Council is to ensure that issues affecting Laurieston get a proper voice and we endeavor to ensure that Laurieston is recognised as part of Gorbals again.
What we do
Much of our ongoing work involves liaison with the City Council to improve landlord services and to increase local amenities, including cleaning services, lift maintenance, concierge security system and in particular with in any aspect of disputes with planning Road Safety matters. We are also actively involved in the discussions surrounding the City Council’s housing stock transfer.
Laurieston Community Council also liaises with other agencies and forums, which aid or promote the best interests of Laurieston and we successfully secured funding from the Social Inclusion Partnership to upgrade the playpark at Cavendish Place.
