About Us

Our aims and objectives

The Health Forum has been established within the Gorbals since August 1998 following a community health seminar. The role of the forum is to:

• Develop a "plan of action" regarding health in the Gorbals area
• To carry out surveys in the area e.g. around the acute Services Review and the Healthy Living Centre Bid
• To take an active role in co-ordinating health work throughout the Gorbals
• To provide advice to and link with the Social Inclusion Partnership Board and Health and Safety Sub-Group
• To encourage members of the local community to join the forum and actively participate in its functions

The Health Forum has a wide range of representation from members of the local community, local projects (e.g. SEAL), local groups (e.g. The Gorbalites) and statutory agencies (e.g. Health Board and Social Work).

What we do

Current issues that the Forum is working on are:

• To link with the 'Starting Well' project
• To support local initiatives for example, The Oatlands Development Trust
• To involve the local community in debates/discussion around health issues

Opening Hours

The Health Forum meets on a six weekly basis, in various locations around Gorbals and is open for anyone in the community that has an interest in health issues.
