Along Devon Street is the oldest surviving school building in
Gorbals - Abbotsford Primary School.
It was closed in 1996 and is due to be converted into flats.
The school had a long tradition of choirs, perhaps not surprising as one of its former pupils, Sir Hugh Roberton was founder and conductor of the Glasgow Orpheus Choir.
The school dates from 1879 and was the first school to be built with an open central hall with classes round it and an upper floor of rooms opening from a balcony. On the Devon Street frontage the carved heads above the door represent John Knox and David Livingstone.
