The Gorbals Leisure Centre opened in January 2000
This high-tech building provides an excellent sports facility for the south side of Glasgow. It has a 25-metre swimming pool, a leisure pool with flume, a tennis hall, health and fitness suites and a café.
Part of it is built on the old ‘Coffin Works’, so named because of its shape, not its product. The work was to prepare skins for furriers. It is also where the last outbreak occurred among its workforce of the deadly anthrax disease in 1905.
