Location 10 - Cumberland Street
Along
Cumberland Street, away from Pine Place, are four-storey maisonettes originally
built by Scottish Special Housing Association.
One of the more successful aspects of 1960s’ Gorbals, these houses and their surroundings have been considerably upgraded.

On
the opposite side of the road is the St Francis’ Centre, formerly a roman catholic
church. A 19th century building, it has survived the extensive redevelopment
around it and it is now a focus for community life.
It has a three-storey meeting place and space for concerts and theatrical productions. The centre was officially opened by Sir Jimmy Savile and Bailie James Mutter in August 1998. It is open to the public.
The friary next to the centre was converted at the same time. It is made into flats for older people.Picture: St Francis’ Centre and former friary
